Where it started

MARIAGE starts with a familiar moment at a restaurant: you have chosen the food, you are looking at the wine list, and you would like a little help deciding what will work well together. I wanted to explore that question using the choices actually available at the table.

The work itself

The app works from the food and wine available and explains why a pairing makes sense, so there is something to go on beyond the name of a bottle. There is also a restaurant side, where guests can scan a table QR code and choose from the venue’s own menu and wine list.

What keeps me interested

What keeps me interested is the gap between producing a recommendation and making it useful to someone who is about to order. The wording, the amount of explanation and the way the choices are presented all matter, because the person using it should be able to decide whether the suggestion suits them and get back to enjoying the meal.
